Andy Barnett

Andy came into teaching after working in the Oil Industry and travelling to teach Geography and share his experiences of the world.

Andy's career started in local authority state comprehensives in London and then West Yorkshire. From NQT to Vice Principal and through academisation he specialised in A Level teaching and Post 16 leadership. Since conversion to Delta 3 years ago, he has progressed from Vice Principal through to Associate Executive Principal, having led Manor Croft Academy as Principal. Andy now supports multiple academy leaders as Executive Principal (Secondaries)

Andy says:

My time with Delta has been hugely rewarding and professionally challenging. The organisation is unrecognisable from the previous trust and this is reflected in the fantastic outcomes in both Primary and Secondary. We set very high expectations of ourselves and our colleagues with the goal of providing outstanding educational experiences for our young people.

The most positive aspect of working for Delta is the support along the way. As principals we meet every 5 weeks and there is always someone available on the end of the phone to ask questions. We don’t take ourselves too serious and it is a fun place to work however everyone is committed to changing lives of the students in the disadvantaged communities that we serve.

The Academies I lead are very different with their own distinct characteristics yet they all feel like Delta Academies due to the central systems and approaches that we use. When I joined Manor Croft Academy in Dewsbury it was underperforming Secondary Academy where students left without the outcomes that would allow them the best opportunity of success. It is now one of the highest performing schools in the North of England for both attainment and progress.

If you are applying for a position at one of our Academies then you need to be passionate about educating young people, have a lot energy and a positive outlook. We work at pace as we know that young people only have one opportunity in education.

If you want to work in one of our amazing Academies then come and take a look at what we do. I am sure that you will be impressed. You will be challenged and supported as we continue on our mission to improve educational outcomes in the North of England.

My top three qualities when looking for a teacher:

  • Positivity
  • Energy
  • The ability to inspire our young people

The most positive aspect of working for Delta is the support along the way
