Donna Brown

Donna joined Delta in 2012 when it was known as SPTA. Prior to being a Head and Associate Executive Principal (Primaries), Donna taught in three very different schools from Reception to Year 6.

Donna taught at a large town school in Harrogate, a small country school outside Ripon and Whetley Academy, a very large inner city primary in Bradford. She has held various leadership posts from curriculum subject leads, to Inclusion Lead, to Assistant Principal for EYFS/KS1 and Deputy Head before becoming Head of Academy at Whetley and then Associate Executive Principal.

Donna thinks that in Primary education you have to develop expertise in a lot of areas as well as knowing something about everything. At secondary school she was encouraged to do science A levels which has led to her enjoying teaching science. Donna also studied English Literature at A level and college and feels English is her curriculum strength. She also really enjoys improving the physical environment in schools to ensure children have the richest, most exciting learning experiences possible.

She feels that with everything in life, the more you learn about something, the more you realise you don’t know. This is one of the many aspects she loves about her job – you are learning new things every single day!

There is no such thing as an average day for Donna and this is what she really likes about her job. Every day is extremely busy and long but they seem to fly by. Each day is unique; some days you go to work with a list of jobs to achieve and you only get one done as another 10 unexpected tasks have to be dealt with. Although this makes her role very interesting it can also be frustrating at times. The trick is to tackle the urgent jobs whist still keeping on track and sticking to your plan. Challenge is also a good thing when you are part of a strong team who work together to get the job done.

Outside of work, Donna likes the simple things in life including reading, watching films, cooking and spending time with family and friends. Donna likes animals and nature and would prefer to be outside in the countryside where she can switch off from life’s chaos and live in the moment. She's not a dare-devil at all and is absolutely petrified of heights.

Donna's perfect day is a lazy Sunday morning, a long family walk through peaceful woodland with her dog Henry, followed by lunch in an old fashioned country pub by an open fire with a glass or two of red wine.

Donna says that Delta is a great team to belong to as there is always somebody willing and able to support you when you need it

Donna thinks at Delta we work very hard but we also manage to retain a sense of humour and have a good laugh together.

I feel that I am challenged to do my job to the best of my ability which keeps me on my toes!
