Jessica Roy

Teresa joined the Trust at the beginning of 2020 as Head at East Garforth Primary Academy.

Teresa has enjoyed a great teaching career so far where she trained at University College of St. Martins in Lancaster and began her teaching career in Preston. Most of her career has been teaching in Inner City schools and she moved back across to Yorkshire to teach in Hunslet, and more recently, Harehills in Leeds. In between, she has taught for shorter periods in Harrogate and Ripon.

Although she trained initially as a KS1 teacher, Jessica has spent most of her teaching career in KS2 and this is where she developed a particular love for teaching English. Since 2012, Jessica has been a Senior leader and English lead and has thoroughly enjoyed the successes and challenges it brings. As a highlight, in 2018, Jessica and her English team were shortlisted for a TES award for the huge progress they were able to bring to a school of 800 (96% EAL) in Harehills. She found it inspiring to be a part of the amazing work going on in Education and the experience in London was a proud moment for them all.

Jessica loves her job at EGPA! On a daily basis it is so varied and she wears so many different hats. As someone who is striving to develop an enviable teaching and learning culture, Jessica is constantly on the go building professional relationships and days fly by at the moment – she is still quite new however.

Delta interested Jessica as a trust and, at interview, she knew we were a perfect fit due to the common ethos, social conscience and belief in quality provision in all areas.

Outside of work Jessica is busy! She’s a single mum to 2 teenagers (taxi driving a must), she takes part in a Pantomime each year, volunteers as a York Street Angel and enjoys singing, football and being outdoors when she can. Hiking in the Lake District is definitely her happy place.
